About Thomas Damen
Thinking clearly is a superpower.
It does not guarantee happiness, but it gives us a better chance of living well. Better choices help us take care of ourselves, take responsibility for others and build organisations worth belonging to.
I have built companies for more than twelve years. First in sport, with Scheidshuren, a platform that matched more than 10,000 fixtures with referees. Then in sustainability, with Zelf Besparen, where I led 45 people at its peak. Today I work with AI every day.
Building showed me what technology makes possible. It also showed me that work creates more than output. People develop creativity, intuition, judgment, connection and tacit knowledge by doing it.
Philosophy and history help me see those consequences sooner. The Stoics offer practical tools for judgment and responsibility. Earlier technological revolutions show that the instruments change, while the human questions return.

What should humans remain capable of?
AI should strengthen resourcefulness, creativity, intuition and independent thought, or remove unnecessary drudgery. It should not make people unable to understand, explain or own the choices made in their name.
